Optimist Club of Aylmer

Aylmer Optimists are volunteer members of the community who have come together in fellowship, service to the community, and the common purpose of bringing out the best in kids. We are part of Zone 9, which is part of the Southwestern Ontario District, which makes up part of the Great Lakes Region of Optimist International. We are one of many service organizations in the East Elgin area and work with them in many major projects that benefit our communities.

The Optimist Creed

The Optimist Creed

  • To be SO STRONG that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
  • To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
  • To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the GREATER ACHIEVEMENTS of the future.
  • To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
  • To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.
  • To think only of the best, to work only for the best and to expect only the best.
  • To wear a cheerful countenance AT ALL TIMES and give every living creature you meet a smile.

  • To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.
  • To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
  • To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have NO TIME to criticize others.

Club History

Formed in 1948, the club has been an active community partner in many projects and programs that have not only benefited our youth but also our communities. This is in part evidenced by our support of the East Elgin Community Complex, Optimist Park, the Skateboard facility, East Elgin Secondary School Sports Field, and our commitment to the East Elgin Secondary School Scholarship Program. And we have also been an active supporter of other community organizations in their efforts to support the bettering of the community as a whole.

Over the past 74 years, Aylmer Optimists have run many different programs, some of which have slowly waned as new programs and activities have grown and flourished. Among these many and varied activities are the Downhill Derby, Bean Supper for Cubs and Beavers, Archery, Sport Target Shooting.
